Unfortunately for their misguided zeal, the gift is anachronistic. THEIR PET PROJECT, walked out on them... 8 days ago.... Apparently THEY weren't paying close attention, and THEY didn't notice.
THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY SIGNIFICANT FIGHTING west of Donbas for several weeks. That's when Russian forces withdrew to the Donbas, to solidify their presence in that region. To do... what they said they'd do... establish and render FULL SECURITY protection from the Kiev-run military, for... the entire "breakaway" Donbas region.
And by holding their ground firmly in Mariupol, Russian forces eventuated a surrender of the Azov brigade.
What does this all mean? It means--- For all practical considerations... THE 'WAR' (so-called by the west, 'limited project' so-called by Moscow)... has concluded.

How can this be said? Easily and with obviation. KIEV-run forces are NOT going to enter and "re-take" Donbas or any part of Donbas. The hold by Russian forces is very firm. And the locals are Russian-speaking people. They are WITH, and appreciative of, the security provided by Russia. DEFACTO, Donbas joins Crimea as a breakaway region.
Did Russia ever say it aimed to takeover the Kiev government and ouster Zelensky? No, it actually never stated that. In fact, it many times voiced to the contrary.
What Russia has stated all along was-- it entered the region to DE-NAZIFIY the region, to deactivate bioweapons labs, and to provide strong and needed security for the breakaway region. Those goals have been achieved in the main. There's still a lil cleanup work to do in parts of Donbas.
[Update 5/27 -- Russian forces in eastern Donbas captured the center of the railway hub town of Lyman and encircled most of Sievierodonetsk city. Kyiv's forces fell back in the face of Moscow's Donbas advance.]

To begin with, Ukraine is not some innocent nation that was all of a sudden senselessly targeted by the wrath of an unprovoked and maniacal Putin. It is a nation that has housed some of the worst corruption seen in any European country (over mannny decades). It has been home to corrupt politicians, businessmen doing dirty deals illegal elsewhere in the world, and local leaders that are completely inactive in their response to the citizens' needs. Not much is different today, especially since the 2014 when Yanukovich, [who is considered by most Ukrainians of older age to be a pretty decent leader], was ousted from power with the nefarious 'help' of NATO and the US. The Maidan Revolution in 2014, which wasn't supported by large majority of the public, was entirely staged by Victoria Nuland [wife of Robert Kagan, one of the founders of PNAC which is known to profit from wars worldwide]. Right after Poroshenko came into power in 2014, the US government began to install illegal and satanic bioweapons labs across the Ukraine... and covertly began installing NATO officers to train Ukrainian soldiers. Why do you think Russia invaded Crimea? Because it had nothing else to do? Why then and not some other time if they are so power hungry and reckless?
The fact of the matter is that the Ukraine war is a horrid pain in the thigh for Russia. Who it has better things to do, such as taking care of the giant land area of its country and controlling its borders. And do note that Russia, since the fall of the Soviet, is not known for waging long wars of evil motivations in other countries [like the US constantly does] and has only tried to promote peace with its neighbors. The fact that Russia has waged an unprofitable war like that in Ukraine means it had no choice. Isn't that obvious? Or have you been feeding daily on CNN?
The war, or more accurately a skirmish, in Ukraine is no accident. NATO has known for decades that NATO presence near Russia's border poses a great risk to Russia and that Russia has made a closed-doors deal with NATO (twice) to assure that NATO doesn't expand further. But NATO wants war. It is a global terrorist that's constantly manipulating politics to justify wars against other countries for the purpose of profit and control. NATO has known that, eventually, a large enough build up of Western influence in Ukraine was going to lead to its invasion by Russia. They anticipated and planned this to happen to bait Russia into this conflict. It is not a true conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The two nations are like brothers and have been for many decades, which makes it silly that people consider them as warring nations. The truth is that Ukraine has been caught in the middle and the Ukraine conflict is a proxy war between NATO and Russia. THE INTENTION BEING? To destroy Russia. Break it up into regions. And steal its wealth of resources. It's that simple. If you can perceive, you perceive.
