At the USA LIBRARY OF CONGRESS (in Washington DC)... things are added to the library inventory based on historical importance / historical significance. And of course, today, much of the incoming content to be considered is in video form. This requires staff librarians to watch and analyze many videos as part of their 'evaluation' duties.

This month, among the 12 new hires of SCREENING STAFF, there happen to be 3 rather gorgeous young ladies. They report to a dual team of supervisors... who just so happen to be a married couple. Mark and Mary Lhusting. Mark and Mary have been in charge of screening for three years now, and everyone enjoys working for them because they have a sense of humor. They are also kind of 'racy', and rumor has it they have a now and then invited an attractive staffer who works for them over to their home for dinner -and extracurricular.

Anyway, regarding the 3 hot new female staffers, Mark and Mary decided to play a practical joke on the ladies to test their sense of humor. They gave each of them the following video movie and declared it to be a LOST film of the JEDI SPACE WARS series, which was never released. They asked the ladies to review it and determine if it had enough significance of historical value to be preserved as an addition to the library's stock. Basically, they wanted to see if the new staffers "got it" that the assignment was meant simply to be a humorous practical joke. The three ladies were asked to report back within 2 business days on the value of the film, historically. They were asked to watch it twice to get a good sense of it.

After two business days, the three ladies all reported back. The first lady said...

Since the film was never released, and we can't gauge how audiences might have either made it popular or rejected it, it has no historical value. But, btw, do you mind if I keep this flash drive of the film?

(me) Soooo.. I was thinking tonight about a really good drama TV series that was on television in 1995-96. It was a legal drama starring the truly great actor Daniel Benzali. Show was titled MURDER ONE. It was on ABC, and it was the creation of prolific TV producer Steve Bochco.

I didn't watch the show in real time when it was on, but later, like maybe 7 years ago or so, I invested the time to watch the whole first season (which as I saidm dwelled on ONE CASE). And it was fascinating television. Very well scripted, wonderfully acted. Glamorously photographed. And it was so plausible. Nothing was surreal about it. People acted like people do in real life. And the unfolding drama unfolded as it probably would in real life. The (scripted) show was an experiment that was spurred by the OJ TRIAL being covered on TV for weeks and weeks.

I watched it like 2 episodes at a time, and it was quite engrossing. And I give a lot of credit to Benzali. As a lead actor in a drama series, he was powerfully interesting Brought his character, the high-pwoered superstar Lawyer, to life really well.

For example, in a case like that, what's the movie star going to say to his lawyer? I DIDN'T DO IT.. Right? But how does the lawyer know whether to believe that? He has to have his own private investor go out and diligently try to put the facts together. It's a big deal. And moves very laboriously day by day.

The show was really a great show to watch, an excellent TV drama series.

The second season of the show had cast changes, and it was not as compelling. But the first season was totally four-star.

At the USA LIBRARY OF CONGRESS (in Washington DC)... things are added to the library inventory based on historical importance / historical significance. And of course, today, much of the incoming content to be considered is in video form. This requires staff librarians to watch and analyze many videos as part of their 'evaluation' duties.

This month, among the 12 new hires of SCREENING STAFF, there happen to be 3 rather gorgeous young ladies. They report to a dual team of supervisors... who just so happen to be a married couple. Mark and Mary Lhusting. Mark and Mary have been in charge of screening for three years now, and everyone enjoys working for them because they have a sense of humor. They are also kind of 'racy', and rumor has it they have a now and then invited an attractive staffer who works for them over to their home for dinner -and extracurricular.

Anyway, regarding the 3 hot new female staffers, Mark and Mary decided to play a practical joke on the ladies to test their sense of humor. They gave each of them the following video movie and declared it to be a LOST film of the JEDI SPACE WARS series, which was never released. They asked the ladies to review it and determine if it had enough significance of historical value to be preserved as an addition to the library's stock. Basically, they wanted to see if the new staffers "got it" that the assignment was meant simply to be a humorous practical joke. The three ladies were asked to report back within 2 business days on the value of the film, historically. They were asked to watch it twice to get a good sense of it.

The court ruled that if a state was imposing extreme sanctions on the matter of abortion issues-- this was against a woman's right to privacy. But, "up to a point", they said.

In cub scouts, no, but I have a vague memory that if you sought to join the boy scouts, acceptance was not guaranteed.

What was the process?

My memory on this is not crystal clear, but I think they gave you a book to study, and then you took a test about the book, and if you passed, you got in.

Did you like either or both?

I thought the fact they put you in uniforms was wacky. But I didn't dislike the scout programs and precepts. It was good stuff for imbuing certain ideas of conduct and character in you. Right and wrong. Sense of community. Principles of character and discipline. THERE WAS also such a thing also as boy scout CAMP, which was a summer season thing for like a handful of weeks.

And you went?

One year yes. It was like my parents getting rid of my brother and me for a while.

LOL... Did you enjoy it?

Not a bit. It was boring and silly to me. But I do remember one thing well. The last week of camp, we all went on a TEN mile hike. I'm like age 11, I think, and believe me a TEN MILE HIKE was a big deal on your body at age 11. It was an unforgettable emotional experience.

Roasting marshmallows over an outdoor fire. Wow, were they delicious!

Do you think you've done the boy scouts proud in terms of character as a grown man?

(smile) Actually, yes.
